The Significance of the Ultrasonographic Screening in Patient with Abdominal Symptom (¥°)

Abstract
The significance of abdominal ultrasonographic screening in randomized 1068 patients with abdominal symptom was evaluated through methodology of computerbased record system. The results were as follows;
1) Most frequent abdominal symptom were epigastric discomfort ( 19. 59 % ) and RUQ discomfort (18.64%). In male, the latter was more frequent (19.44%) compared with the former(17.22%) and in female, the former(22.68%) more frequent compared with the latter (17.60 %) .
2) The proportion of normal ultrasonographic finding was 40.54% and that of abnormal ultrasongraphic finding was 59.64% in total patients.
3) Most frequent abnormal ultrasonographic finding was hepatic problem (42.85%), and gallbladder (42.08%), splenomegaly (13.20%), ascites (9.17%), extrahepatic bile duct(9. 16%), intrahepatic bile duct(8.59%), pancreas (8.86 % ), kidney (7.28 % ), pleura(2.80 % ), abdominal cavity(1.39%) and gastrointestinal tumor(1.12%) were in decreasing frequency.
4) In final clinical diagnosis, the frequency of the diseases were as follows: liver(42.87% ), stomach and duodenum(15.05 %), gallbladder (9.34%), kidney (5.32%), irritable bowel syndrom (5.05%), pancreas (4.84%), salmonellosis (4.11%), extraheptic bile duct(3.17%), intrahepatic bile duct(2.71%), Pleura (2.14%), neurosis(1.84% ), TB peritonitis (0.84% ), infective colitis(0.84%) and colon cancer(0.65%).
5) In 181 cases of so called "bright liver" by ultrasonographic finding, 71 cases (38.12%) of hepatomegaly, 80 cases(44.20%) of splenomegaly, 43 cases (23.76 %) of splenomegaly and ascites and 54 cases(29.38%) of hepatic tumor were noticed.
6) In 65 cases of dilation of extrahepatic bile duct, 40 cases(61.54%) of dilatation of intraheptic bile duct were noticed.
These results indicate that computer-based ultrasonographic record system is helpful in the workup of abdominal symptomatology.
